Full membership in the Zimbabwe Psychological Association (approximately 200 members) is open to psychologists registered with the Allied Health Practitioners Council – a sub-group of the Health Professions Authority of Zimbabwe – under the Psychological Practices Act of 1971 or to persons eligible for such registration, but associate, student and subscribing memberships are allowed. The Zimbabwe Psychological Association was founded in 1971 to encourage and advance psychology as a pure and applied science, to promote and maintain the standards and professional status of psychologists, to determine the qualifications of psychologists for professional purposes, and to advise legislative and statutory bodies in matters relating to the profession. The Zimbabwe Psychological Association provides a forum for discussion of professional matters through seminars or meetings and via its newsletter Feedback. A committee of the Association advises the Health Practitioners Council on professional training and registration and on other legal matters such as professional conduct and the use of psychological tests.
